Count the business days (weekdays) between two dates, with the option to exclude U.S. federal holidays, or add business days to a date to find a deadline.
What counts as a business day?
A business day is usually Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Banks, government agencies and many contracts count deadlines in business days, so "5 business days" can mean a week or more on the calendar.
U.S. federal holidays included
When holidays are excluded, the calculator skips the 11 U.S. federal holidays, using the observed date when a holiday falls on a weekend:
- New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day
- Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day
- Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day
State holidays, company holidays and days like the day after Thanksgiving are not included.
Worked example
From Monday, November 2, 2026 to Monday, November 30, 2026 (inclusive) there are 29 calendar days and 21 weekdays. Excluding Veterans Day (November 11) and Thanksgiving (November 26) leaves 19 business days.
Frequently asked questions
Are the start and end dates included?
Yes, both dates are counted if they are business days. To exclude the start date, begin the count one day later.
Is Saturday a business day?
Not for most offices, banks and courts. Some industries and countries treat Saturday differently, so check the rules that apply to your deadline.
