Deadline Calculator

See exactly how much time is left until a deadline: calendar days, business days and weeks, plus how much work you need to do each day to finish on time.

How the deadline calculator works

Enter a deadline and the calculator counts the calendar days and business days from your start date (today, if you leave it blank). Add how much work is left, in hours, pages, tasks or anything else, to see the daily pace you need.

Daily pace = work remaining ÷ days left

Business days start counting from the day after your start date and include the deadline itself, which matches how most people plan ("I have 10 working days left").

Worked example

A report is due in 30 calendar days and needs about 40 hours of work. If those 30 days contain 21 business days, you need about 1.9 hours a day on workdays, or about 1.3 hours a day if you also work weekends.

Tips for hitting deadlines

  • Add a buffer. Plan to finish a few days early; tasks usually take longer than expected.
  • Break the work into milestones with their own mini-deadlines.
  • Protect focus time. Use the Pomodoro planner to schedule focused sessions.
  • Prioritize. Sort competing tasks with the priority matrix.

Frequently asked questions

Does the count include today?

Calendar days count from your start date to the deadline. Business days start the day after, so today's work is not double-counted.

Can I count only certain weekdays?

The calculator uses Monday to Friday. For other schedules, use the calendar-day pace.
